Congratulations on taking your first steps towards become a light bearer. Teaching Reiki is a truly rewarding experience.
Reiki energy enhances the body’s innate ability to heal itself. At its essence, Reiki healing aligns and stimulates the bio-magnetic energy flowing through the body, supporting the body’s ability to reduce stress and promote healing.
Current global concerns have motivated Americans to become more focused on their health and wellness and many people seek out Reiki specifically for relief from anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
It’s no surprise that as more people are seeking inner peace and general wellbeing, there is a growing demand for holistic healing. Many hospitals throughout the country offer Reiki, and it’s used by a growing number of massage therapists as well.
Questions to Ask When Selecting Your Reiki Master Teacher
Since there isn’t a governing body that determines the quality of materials presented in Reiki classes, it’s important for prospective Reiki students to identify the potential quality of the training offered.
Prices can range drastically and classes can vary from 2 – 16 hours, and some offer on-going coaching/training programs up to a year in length. It is advisable to seek out a Reiki Master teacher who is “walking the talk” as they say.
As a Reiki Master teacher myself, these are the questions I highly recommend asking when you’re searching for your teacher.
- Does this person have a passion for Reiki?
- Are they actively giving Reiki sessions?
- How long have they been in practice?
- Do they have experience teaching Reiki?
- How many hours are their classes, what topics are covered, how much practice is there in the class?
- Do they have a manual, and what sort of after-class support do they provide?
- Will they support your desire to become a Reiki Master teacher, and what is involved in becoming a certified teacher of Reiki?
- How do you feel inside as you are talking with this person? Do you resonate with them, have a sense of connection?
Each Reiki Master is unique; it’s important to choose a Reiki teacher that truly resonates with you.
What Reiki Training Includes
Since there are no “Reiki police”, each Master will design their classes according to their own sense.
Some teachers include lots of material where others offer minimal, based on their levels of competence and depth of experience and professionalism.
At the very least, every class will include receiving what is called an attunement, or initiation. This is a special process by which the student becomes able to channel the Reiki energy and as they progress in their training.
The student is attuned to specific bandwidths of energy within the Reiki “chord”. Usui Reiki has 4 specific bandwidths and we call them symbols. These are used to address the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of life.
In Laura Magpali’s Reiki classes, students learn numerous ways to do Reiki both for themselves and for others. Many techniques and procedures are taught and practiced, both on themselves and on each other.
We cover the history of Reiki up to current day. Chakras, their themes and why they matter in a Reiki session are introduced in 1st Degree Reiki. We go into more depth in the 2nd Degree Reiki class and include the body’s organs and how they each express one’s emotional condition, and how this applies to self-healing ad doing healing work for others.
Students learn to sense energies and discord within the recipient’s field and learn how to use the symbols to address what they sense. They learn how to combine the symbols to achieve various specific results. Students learn to sense chakra locations, treating chakras and areas of discomfort to bring about balance and harmony.
Reiki Master Training
The 3rd Degree Reiki training class is also called “Reiki Master”.
It should be noted that not everyone who is a Reiki Master is also a Reiki teacher. That can be confusing.
Originally, the 4th symbol was only used to pass the attunement, thus the term Reiki Master automatically meant they taught.
But it turned out that the symbol can also be used for healing! Since many people don’t want the responsibility of teaching but they want the 4th symbol, many Reiki Master teachers decide to offer the training in two sections, with teaching being optional.
Most people who seek Reiki Master training are coming from a desire to immerse oneself in Reiki so as to expand and evolve.
This is a process of being and becoming, as opposed to just doing, and hopefully not just for the title. One’s willingness to continuously engage in this process furthers one’s evolution and can lead to the sustained recognition and ultimate experience of your connection to Reiki energy.
Growing in Reiki leads to greater self-awareness as you expand your relationship with Reiki, with your Self, and with the world.
Becoming a Reiki Teacher
Becoming a Reiki Master Teacher is about far more than just bring able to pass the attunement that initiates someone to Reiki. That’s the easy part!
It is necessary that the prospective teacher first of all have developed a solid understanding of and relationship with Reiki. How can you teach what you don’t have? It takes time to develop depth in Reiki because Reiki is not theory, it is experiential.
For most people, the 1st level of training only takes a month or so to settle in. The 2nd level actually takes about 6 months, and Laura’s Sacred Flame Reiki Master class is deeply transformative and takes at least a year to “gel”.
There are a few organizations that spell out exactly how each class is to be taught and what materials to include or purchase from them, however most Reiki Master teachers are independent. Therefore each teacher must create their own teaching materials based on their own values, experience and depth of understanding.
Laura’s teacher training includes the prospective master teacher write their own 1st and 2nd Degree manuals. This process is invaluable to helping the prospective teacher clarify what they know and feel is important. Student teachers practice teaching topics in live classes, and learn the nuts and bolts of the logistics of teaching.
In essence, the training consists of a profound involvement with Reiki. Your teacher’s role is to observe, mentor, reflect, question, guide, support, and encourage you. The Reiki energy, your teacher’s support, together with your commitment and passion, create a synergistic training that is precisely tuned to you and your needs.
