First Degree Reiki Class

The 1st Degree of Reiki is all about become able to channel Reiki energy and gaining understanding around it.

You’ll learn the history and the science of what Reiki is. You’ll build a solid foundation on which to enjoy the magical aspects of Reiki, balanced by the grounded truth of science and research.

We explore how Reiki works, where it came from, what Reiki can do, and some of the many ways Reiki can be used.

Reiki is used in numerous oncology hospitals throughout the country since so many respond by healing faster and needing less medication. It’s even one of the services listed as being available at Johns Hopkins Medical. 

Reiki can also be used very effectively for emotional issues such as PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma. Spiritually, Reiki helps clear out the debris within so one can better sense their spiritual connection, enabling them to access their inner wisdom and knowing. There are 3 levels, or “Degrees” of Reiki training.

The ability to channel Reiki is passed from Master to student via a process called an attunement.  This process stimulates personal growth as a result of the chakras’ frequency being increased by the attunement.

As a certified 1st Degree Reiki practitioner, you’ll be able to transmit this healing energy at will to yourself and others, animals, your food, your plants… and so much more. 

There are 3 degrees of Reiki training: this class is the first of three.

The 1st Reiki Symbol

The ability to channel Reiki is passed from Master to student via a reiki attunement level 1. This attunement is the specific energy transfer that activates the student’s energy field to be able to channel Reiki energy at will.

You will learn the 1st Reiki symbol and learn how to apply it.

Think of traditional Usui Reiki as a 4 note chord. The student is enabled to channel the full Reiki chord with their 1st degree. This will include activating a symbol, one specific note of the Reiki chord.

Each symbol addresses a specific aspect of healing: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

The first Reiki symbol amplifies the power of Reiki and is especially useful for physical issues.

You can channel Reiki energy for anyone’s physical issues including pain, dysfunction, and disease.

You will learn introductory information on the chakras and how to balance them in a Reiki session. Specific protocols and hand positions will be taught that allow Reiki practitioners to give effective treatments to self and to others.

We learn how to make Reiki Balls, a special tool for – well, all kinds of things! The basics of meditation are introduced and practiced. We even talk a bit about the use of crystals.

Scanning is introduced. The practitioner learns to sense discordant energies in the recipient’s energy field. Also called the aura, this is the magnetic field that surrounds the body. Scanning can help the practitioner zero in on the areas that need more attention.

Each student gives and receives a full Reiki session. You’ll learn specific self-care aids, meditations, and ways to apply Reiki to your every day life.

It’s a packed with information and experience class. Everyone leaves grinning and feeling connected to something greater! And everyone knows how to do Reiki!

Common Reiki Questions

Reiki is a very simple technique to learn and is not dependent on one having any prior experience with healing, meditation or any other kind of training. It has been successfully learned by over one million people from all walks of life, both young an old.

Reiki is so easy to learn and requires no background or experience with energy, making it perfect for beginners. We hear over and over from people who are experienced energy workers testify that when they take Reiki training their work becomes immediately more effective.

New students start with 1st Degree Reiki where we make the energy of Reiki accessible so they can channel Reiki any time they want to. This first level focuses primarily on Reiki with regards to the physical world.  

Graduates move on to 2nd Degree where they learn 2 more symbols and find their Reiki experience really takes a jump up. Why? Because the symbols the student is attuned to have a direct effect on the student (healer, heal thyself) for healing their own emotional and mental levels.  These symbols are used for emotional/mental healing and doing distance, or remote healing.

The growth the student experiences between 2nd Degree and 3rd is always noticeably dynamic. And then there’s the 3rd Degree!! For those who find Reiki to be a way of life, who deeply desire spiritual evolution and connection to the Unseen this class will not disappoint.

A beginning Reiki class is taught on a weekend. The class can be one or two days long. I recommend that the minimum time necessary be at least six to seven hours. Along with the attunement, it is necessary that the student be shown how to give treatments and also to practice giving treatments in class.

There is a wide variety of Reiki class styles and materials offered. There are no “Reiki police” to standardize anyone’s class offerings. Therefore, it can be very important to get some information prior to choosing your teacher. Below are some factors to consider before you take a Reiki class from someone.

Be aware of how you feel as you receive the answers. Is the teacher responding in a supportive, respectful and loving manner? Listen with your heart and choose the teacher with whom you resonate.

How long have they been doing Reiki, and how long have they been teaching?

Do they offer Reiki sessions professionally?

How do they use Reiki professionally?

What do they cover in their classes?

Do they provide an instruction manual and certificate?

How many hours are their classes?

How much hands-on practice do the students get in class?

How many symbols will you learn?

What are the specific things you’ll be able to do after the training?

What sorts of support is offered after the class is over?

Our classes are approved to give CEU credits to licensed massage therapists in Oregon. Massage students and massage therapists can apply the hours they spend learning Reiki to their credit hours.

Most classes are 12 – 15 hours each. It is so easy to add a deeper level of healing to a massage session that many massage therapists learn Reiki.

There are no prerequisites to taking a 1st Degree Reiki class. Anyone with an interest in sharing healing energy with others, themselves, their pets, or any other living being is welcome to learn Reiki.

Reiki is spiritual in nature; however, it is not a religion, it has no dogma and there is nothing you must believe in to use Reiki.

Reiki Master Laura Magpali’s Reiki training includes a total of 5 symbols.

You’ll receive 1 in First Degree that amplifies and focuses powerful healing for the physical body.

You’ll receive 2 in Second Degree that are for emotional and mental healing and doing distance or remote healing.

If you’re finding Reiki is a way of life for you, there are 2 more in the Master class, the combination of which catapults the practitioner to a much greater connection to Source and the ability to channel a stronger and more effective frequency of Reiki energy.

In the Usui/Tibetan system of Reiki taught here there are four levels. These include what is known as 1st Degree, 2nd Degree, Master Practitioner, and Master Teacher.

First of all, let’s clarify some terms. By far, most people do not want to take on the responsibilities of being a teacher of Reiki. But many Reiki Master Teachers feel it is worthwhile for the student to be able to selectively include the 4th Usui symbol when they do Reiki.

Laura Magpali’s Reiki Master classes go a step further and include another Reiki symbol that dramatically increases the level of energy channeled. Even more importantly, this additional symbol creates a dynamic increase in one’s personal growth, evolution and overall coherency. It is for this reason that most people choose to take a Master class; they recognize Reiki as a spiritual path that deepens the meaning and direction of their lives.

Because there is such a dramatic amount of energetic shifts that take place, and these shifts take time, this Reiki Master Teacher does not include the Teacher portion of the training until that person has had some quality time in which to deepen their understanding of Reiki. You can’t teach what you don’t know or don’t have within you. Laura’s classes range from 12 – 15 hours for each level, and each student emerges confident in the skills introduced.

For the person who is ready to take on the responsibilities of being a Reiki Master Teacher, we develop a personalized plan based on their skill sets and goals and work together to prepare that teacher.

Yes, one of the terrific things about Reiki is the ability to be able to treat yourself at any time.

Plants and animals respond well to Reiki. Animals seem to have a natural understanding of what Reiki is and its benefits. Once a pet has received a Reiki treatment, they will often let you know that they want more. 

Laura Magpali began her Reiki training in 1999, discovering for herself how amazing, effective and useful Reiki is. Laura has a keen passion for Reiki and began teaching classes in 2000 and then through Lane Community College. Laura uses Reiki throughout every day in big and in small ways. Laura Reiki’s her food, her water,  uses it for personal health and healing, for situations, for connecting to Spirit…personal growth, guidance, protection, …the ways to use it are endless! Laura learned Reiki from Barbara West and from Carrie Lenart. She is a full time practitioner and teacher of Reiki.

We  cover the history, what Reiki is, how to use it, & when. We include lots of practicing of numerous useful techniques, as well as the giving and receiving of a full Reiki session. We teach scanning, offer detailed uses of the symbols, teaching on the chakras, the body organs, and what their emotional counterparts are, which symbols to use when, for what, and how to treat with Reiki.  Our 1st and 2nd Degree classes are 12 – 14 hours each.
